Saxon Maybank is a secluded, sophisticated escape in the depths of rural Dorset. It is utterly private, yet not remote, located off a network of country lanes and approached by a long private drive. The greatest spectacle of this peaceful, low impact development, are undoubtedly the exceptional southerly views. The sensitive development was formed from a unique former farmstead, nestling within an area of rich farmland whose low wooded hills hide some of the County’s loveliest honey-stone villages. Great care has been taken to preserve the integrity and history of the original property, formerly owned by the medieval foundation of Winchester College and it‘s extensive estates. The new build has been sympathetically designed to complement and enhance the old, with the use of natural and reclaimed sustainable materials. There are just a handful of highly specified holiday properties which form a unique and intimate cluster. A delightful village is just a 1/2 mile walk away through the narrow leafy lanes. It has a charming shop, the obligatory village pub and a beautiful sandstone church. The historic town of Sherborne, with not just one, but two Castles set in ancient parkland, is just a 3 mile cycle or drive and is brimming with fine specialist purveyors of quality local foods and excellent independent retailers. It also has superb arts and sports facilities. A choice of two golf courses are only 1 and 3 miles away respectively. There are innumerable walks through the network of old droves and ancient byways past Bluebell woods, over chalky wolds and through luscious dairy vales embroidered with abundant hedgerows. A series of short drives will take you to a magnificent selection of coastal gems, amongst them: Chesil Beach, Lyme Regis, Lulworth, and Studland. Nearby Sutton Bingham reservoir provides fishing and inland water recreation. By contrast, the splendours of Bath are only 40 minutes away. Saxon Maybank is well connected to arterial routes. The Waterloo mainline station in Sherborne is 3 miles away and the A303 just 30 minutes away.
